Hazelnuts are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.
Contain significant amounts of B group vitamins, including foliate and Vitamin B6 and other minerals.
Highest in fiber of all the nuts, contain no cholesterol and are an excellent source of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Hazelnuts are harvested in late summer and early autumn when the nuts fall to the ground within a short period. Hazelnuts are used in confectionery to make praline and in combination with chocolate for chocolate truffles and products such as hazelnut spreads.
18 – 20 Hazelnuts are the highest of all nuts in vitamin B foliate. B foliate may lower the risk of breast cancer. Foliate also reduces homocysteine - an amino acid associated with heart disease.
